ARCh often receives information about resources
available in the community and/or via the Internet. Although we do
not endorse any of the specific products or services, we would like to
pass along the information to our members, and hope that it is helpful.
The authors of the best-selling Chicken Soup for the
Soul series are seeking contributions for an upcoming publication
tentatively titled “Chicken Soup for the Special Needs Community.” A
“chicken soup” story is “an inspirational, true story that opens the
heart and re-kindles the spirit. It is the personal account of an event,
an obstacle overcome, a lesson learned or a dream fulfilled that helps
the reader discover basic principles they can use in their own lives. To

Special Needs Family Center
The Special Needs Family Center is dedicated to meeting families
needs through a statewide coordinated system of information, referral
and follow up, family to family support and strong, collaborative,
partnerships with providers in the southeast region.
Rides & Reins Therapeutic Equestrian Center
Rides & Reins
invites horseback riders of all ages and abilities to experience the
physical, emotional and psychological benefits of riding. Services are
offered free of charge at their location in the town of Polk (near

Waisman Center Information
The Waisman Center’s Youth Fact Sheet series
includes information on topics such as preparing for technical college,
the role of DVR and getting a job, getting involved in your IEP, and

Partners in Policymaking
Partners in Policymaking offers four free on-line courses for parents
and self-advocates, including: "Partners in Time", a tutorial on the
history of people with disabilities from ancient times until today;
"Partners in Education", a discussion on special education options,
designed to help parents get the most out of the school system for their
kids; "Making Your Case", education on the legislative process and how
to effectively communicate with public officials; and "Partners in
Employment", a career planning class for persons with disabilities,
including assistance with resume development. For more
